  Welcome to my new blog, Sun Sports Central. In starting this blog, I'm hoping to give you, the reader, an additional outlet to read my thoughts on the Lea County sports scene while also touching every now and then on regional and national sports topics (I promise, I'll limit my rants about my alma mater University of Oregon).

  Having worked for the News-Sun sports department since 2006, I understand and appreciate how fortunate we in Lea County are to have a thriving sports scene with plenty of community support, which makes my job great. With Hobbs, Lovington, Eunice, Jal and Tatum athletics always in the mix in one sport or another to go along with New Mexico Junior College and University of the Southwest, there are always interesting tidbits we may not get to in a story or think about until after our newspaper deadline. Hopefully here, we can get it in plus other additional thoughts, photos or whatever.

  I'm hoping this is going to be a fun endeavor. Please remember though, we will be mostly discussing high school athletes and prep teams. I ask that you please respect these aren't professional or college athletes and to not attack them or anyone else in a personal matter. These are young men and women competing for the love of the game and we get to enjoy their hard work. It's OK to debate because, in the end, we are talking about sports. If things get out of hand, however, I will have to shut this down. I just want to provide something extra for you, the Lea County sports fan.
